This layout began with Donald R. Polizzi.

Don was the original builder, designer, and guiding hand behind the model railroad that now continues in a new chapter. What started as his lifelong passion — a detailed tribute to Paterson, its rail history, its neighborhoods, and especially the 5th Avenue rail station — has now been passed down for a new generation to enjoy, preserve, and build upon.

Every track, structure, scene, and detail carries part of Don’s imagination, patience, craftsmanship, and love for the city where he grew up. This page is dedicated to honoring the man who started it all, and to keeping his work and spirit alive for those who will experience the layout in the years ahead.

A Life Rooted in Paterson, Creativity, Friendship, and Love

Donald R. Polizzi was born in Paterson, New Jersey, in 1951 and grew up in the family home on Kearney Street. Surrounded by family — his mother Hazel, father Frank, Aunt Mildred, Uncle Ken, older brother Frank, and cousin Glenn Ridler — Don’s early years were filled with the things that would stay close to him for the rest of his life: music, art, imagination, craftsmanship, and friendship.
